FiReControl Communications
Working with EADS, telent are to provide communications infrastructure for the English Fire Services’ revolutionary command and control initiative.
telent's infrastructure solution helps England’s Fire Services to Communicate
About the Fire and Rescue Service
The modern fire service spends as much time trying to prevent fires occurring as it does putting them out. But its ability to respond effectively to emergencies — great and small — still defines this essential public service.
The Fire and Rescue Service’s requirement
Britain’s Fire and Rescue Service is currently managed by 46 individual control centres that direct operations within their local boundaries. But they are unable to effectively co-ordinate across their borders — functionality varies between localities with more than half the control rooms relying solely on voice communications to share information.
So FiReControl was formed, as part of a government initiative, to provide Fire and Rescue Service with the resources and specialist equipment it needs to meet the challenges of today's world such as industrial accidents, terrorist threats and weather related incidents.
Our solution
FiReControl will replace the existing stand-alone control rooms with nine new nationally networked Regional Control Centres (RCCs). These RCCs will each have access to the same information, and the same ability to manage and deploy resources on a local, regional or national level. But the combination of these elements will help control centres to deliver a more robust and responsive emergency service.
We will design and install the communications infrastructure equipment in all of the RCCs and the 1,410 fire stations across England, as well as provide ongoing maintenance and support.
Result
telent has an excellent track record working in mission critical communications environments for police forces, including the Metropolitan Police and regional Fire and Rescue Services. telent’s security cleared field force is co-ordinated by a Secure Services Centre (SSC). The SSC also provides remote network management and first line support of trained staff with security clearance 24 hours a day, seven days a week, throughout the whole year.
