Engineers in front of a fire engine
telent provide 24x7 support to regional fire services to co-ordinate national activities

About Airwave
Airwave provides the dedicated digital network that keeps emergency and public safety teams in touch with each other, even in the most difficult conditions. Airwave’s digital voice and data service is trusted by police, fire and ambulance teams, as well as other public safety agencies, 24 hours a day, every day.

Airwave’s requirement
Radio has become an essential tool for the UK’s emergency services, allowing local services to manage their activities and keep in constant contact. In May 2002, a government review of the emergency services’ operability found that a network was needed to provide better co-ordination of efforts, particularly during large-scale emergencies.

Our solution
The Firelink Programme - provided by Airwave - represents a wholesale investment in radio communications within the emergency services sector. It will replace individual Fire and Rescue Services' radio systems with, for the first time, a national wide area radio system in England, Scotland and Wales.

We will be providing a range of support services to Airwave including:

  • project management
  • design services
  • installation services
  • helpdesk
  • asset management
  • on-site maintenance, and
  • configuration management services.

All services will be available on 24-hour, seven-day-a-week, 365-day-a-year basis.

Result
telent has an excellent track record working in environments where effective communications make a life changing difference. Airwave required assurance that the technologies and processes used would be functional, robust and entirely reliable. telent understands these core requirements and, together with Airwave, have complete confidence that we can deliver the 21st century communication infrastructure our fire services deserve.
