About Metronet
Metronet is the operator responsible for upgrading, replacing and maintaining two-thirds of London Underground's infrastructure which is made up of the Metropolitan, District, Circle, and Hammersmith & City Lines.

Customer requirement
Metronet plans to introduce modern, longer, faster rolling stock on its lines. This investment in improved trains means that Metronet’s stations will need additional systems to ensure that passenger safety and security is not compromised. For instance, train drivers must continue to be able view all their train’s doors when it is standing at the platform.

Our solution
We have designed a microwave-based system – the first of its kind to be deployed in the UK - to meet Metronet’s need for improved passenger safety. This equipment will be used to take images from up to eight high quality CCTV cameras on each platform and, using sophisticated video processors, transmit a combined view of the train’s exterior to the driver via a microwave radio link. This will allow drivers to see every door on their train, regardless of whether the platform is straight or curved.

Result
With over 30 years’ experience in Metro and Rail, our domain knowledge and technical expertise is unrivalled in this sector. Metronet approached us for independent guidance based on our expertise in video surveillance and microwave technology, as well as our extensive experience in working with London Underground. telent has designed a highly reliable and cost-effective solution to meet Metronet’s need for increased passenger safety and security.
