TETRA-based digital PMR offers reduced risk of radio interception, higher quality transmission and improved functionality over analogue radio systems. A pilot TETRA radio project, led by the Bavaria’s DigiNet group, is already underway in the city and district of Munich, as part of plans to replace existing analogue radio systems across the whole of Germany by 2012.

Connected by a wide area network (WAN), the CCTV cameras transmit images to the remote security control centre in Derby and can also be operated locally. telent will upgrade the existing SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) network to next-generation SDH systems such as OMS1664, OMS1684 and OMS840. The new network will enable E.ON to migrate its TDM-based communication traffic to Ethernet and IP-based services. The OMS-based platform enables flexible configuration, both as a cross-connect for traditional TDM services, as well as for broadband data transmission units. The network can be further upgraded to allow higher bandwidth capacity (STM-64) and WDM.

The former Marconi’s UK and German services business that was renamed telent on the sale of Marconi’s equipment business to Ericsson will provide a turnkey project for O2 Airwave.
