Wireless infrastructure

At its best wireless provides the benefits of wired networks at a fraction of the deployment cost and in similarly low timescales. The standard of implementation is key to acheiving these benefits without compromising network stability, capacity and quality.

Masts

With Unified Communications becoming a standard customer expectation, the user experience should be no different between wireless and wired services. However, the challenges posed when designing, implementing and operating wireless infrastructure are uniquely complex.

The necessity to dig up roads to lay cable is not missed in the world of wireless but connecting one point in the network to another is by no means simple. The need to understand the conditional tolerances of different wireless protocols, standards and equipment, select the most appropriate to use for any given application and assure interoperability across a system adds new layers of complexity to wireless infrastructure.

Whilst national wired networks are built around hubs in urban centres, wireless base stations are often built in more remote areas. telent’s truly nationwide wireless capability is achieved via an extensive field-force of skilled engineers, riggers and project managers providing coverage across the UK.

Also, with network assets distributed across very broad geographic areas, telent’s intelligent logistics planning best utilises CapEx spending and ensures that the right tools and equipment are consistently in the right place at the right time.

Whether you’re using wireless infrastructure to deliver mobile telephony services, fixed backhaul solutions or even broadcast applications you can take advantage of telent’s extensive wireless infrastructure capabilities:

Network engineering

Network Planning & Design - telent engineers will design and plan your network to meet specific commercial objectives. Our expertise ensures that the most cost-effective and optimised solutions are identified for deployment, helping to reduce your capital investments and operating costs.

Transmission – Our transmission planners will design your network and skilled line-of-sight teams will then assess the radio path and its surrounding area to ensure that the site is free from obstacles. Where necessary we will plot alternative paths to maximise connectivity.

Drive Testing - Using the latest test equipment, we can monitor GSM including EDGE, GPRS and 3G networks simultaneously. We can use the results to build signal-strength maps on a nation-wide basis.

Network Performance – Assessing precise demand for network resource we’ll help to ensure that customers and end-users are provided with the best quality of service. Key performance indicators will be used to assess effective network throughput, allowing insufficiencies to be quickly addressed.

Site deployment & integration

Acquisition, Design and Construction - telent will work across all disciplines to evaluate site suitability for engineering, acquisition, and build. We’ll also manage legal compliance with site providers. Our design engineers will assess the structural suitability of the site and we will manage site construction including any related civil works spanning utilities, power and electrical.

Rigging, Installation & Commissioning - telent engineering and rigging teams are stationed across the UK, prepared to install and commissioning your base station and switch sites wherever they are situated. Our wireless specialists will then integrate the new sites with your network.

Temporary sites - telent’s experience in managing and deploying temporary mobile sites will support your special events, or short-medium term requirements to enhance wireless network capacity. We will provide a complete wireless package for coverage scheme deployment including RF survey, RF design, acquisition, installation design and construction, and installation and commissioning.

Network support and maintenance

Corrective and Preventative Maintenance - Operating 24x7, our highly skilled engineers undertake investigation and fault clearance in a live-traffic environment, as well as planned and scheduled activity. Our constant focus is to minimise service disruption to your customers, ensuring that Service Level Agreements are always achieved.

Site Rationalisation - telent will provide technical and on-site expertise to manage the removal of wireless equipment and infrastructure from redundant sites. We will decommission and re-host equipment where necessary, whilst managing all aspects of legal compliance for site termination agreements.
