system available. Aruba’s systems have been chosen by military and
civil organisations alike, with a number of NHS trusts adopting Aruba as
their WLAN standard due to the inherent security of the system.
Case Study - University College London Hospitals NHS Trust
As part of a major overhaul of IT infrastructure at UCLH, telent successfully
completed the design, supply, installation and commissioning of what is
believed to be the UKs largest single wireless network, covering 7,000 users
in eight hospitals, including the new UCLH flagship, £422 million, hospital
on Euston Road, London.
The Wireless Local Area Network technology was supplied by Aruba
Networks and it gives UCLH staff access to a variety of services when they
are on the move. The solution comprises three Aruba 5000 mobility controllers
and nearly 300 centrally managed access points. It has been installed
primarily to accommodate UCLH's move to a completely paperless Electronic
Patient Record (EPR) system over the next few years. The EPR system will
enable doctors and nurses to access patient information on the move anywhere
within the hospitals, from bedside to operating theatre. Information will
be available in real time, which will ensure that data can be viewed at
the point of patient contact.
The system installed will also be capable of handling voice and, as such
UCLH will be rolling out a mobile voice solution over the Aruba system.
