telent Extends Major Waterways Network In GermanyNetwork makes remote control of locks possibleLondon — 16 November 2006 — telent GmbH (LSE: TLNT) has won a major order to extend the communications network for The German Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV). telent will be expanding the WSV communications network in Schweinfurt and Nuremberg. In order to carry out its operational duties efficiently, the Federal WSV operates a licence-free communications network for the federal waterways. This unique network comprises line-conducted transmission technology and switching systems and is used to transmit messages in the form of voice, video and data. A further connection is to be provided to remotely control locks. The order is for the delivery of more than 80km of optical-fibre cable, as well as the installation and commissioning of the system, which includes SDH-OMS 1654 multiplexers, enabling transmission speeds of 624 Mbit/s over a single fibre pair. All of the network elements will be monitored and configured by the central Service on Access (SoA) management system.
