TELENT Tops £250,000 Target for NSPCC Donation6 February 2007 – telent, a leading provider of technology services, today announced that it has smashed its target of raising £250,000 for the NSPCC. To achieve the target, staff at telent have organised fundraising activities from auctions to golf days, and have made contributions directly from their salaries to support the NSPCC’s FULL STOP Campaign. Today, Mark Plato, CEO of telent and champion of the cause, handed over a cheque for £257,025.54 to Sophie Hutchison of the NSPCC.
Commenting on the achievement, Mark said: “To raise over a quarter of a million pounds for such a worthy cause is an achievement that everyone at telent can be extremely proud. Our employees, and our suppliers and customers, have given their time and their money to help stop cruelty to children in the UK. We will continue to support the NSPCC’s vital work and plan to raise a further £50,000 this year.” Fundraising activity by telent has included sponsored bike rides, in which over 80 staff and their families participated, raising almost £10,000. Two golf days raised over £77,000, while staff contributed over £7,000 directly from their salaries. Individual efforts included Dave Crawford, process manager, running the New York Marathon in 2006 and raising over £500, and Nigel Ellis, senior bid manager, embarking on a busking tour of Europe: travelling on his motorbike, he covered 10 countries in five days, clocking up over 2,300 miles and raising over £2,000. “Right now, over 30,000 children in the UK alone are at risk of abuse and are on child protection registers,” said Sophie Hutchison, Account Director for the NSPCC’s Corporate Partnerships Management Team. “It is only through the generosity of people like the staff at telent that we can protect the children that desperately need our help. £250,000 is an enormous amount and could help us to answer 16,250 calls from families in desperate need, or could pay for therapy for 50 children for a year, which will help them to rebuild their lives.”About telent plc: telent plc supplies a broad range of telecommunication and IT network services to enterprises, equipment vendors, public sector organisations and network operators in the UK, Ireland and Germany, leveraging its accumulated knowledge of customers’ networks, its expert field force, its scale and reputation for quality.
